Email to a friend: Hey there! I feel like I haven't seen you in forever... Question — was it a marathon you said your sister (in-law?) wanted you to run with her?
(It had been a few months since we’d had the conversation. I remember she hadn’t sounded thrilled about the prospect but had agreed to accompany her sister (in-law?) in the “mark-my-40th-birthday” race as requested.)
Email response: It has been a while if you're thinking I might even consider a marathon! ;-) It was my sister and a 5K and it hasn't happened yet! You thinking about it??
Me: Okay, so maybe I'm mis-remembering just a bit. ;-) Your glory of the breast cancer walk lives on ... clearly, I think you can do anything.
I, who have run for all of about 24 minutes spread over the last three days, have a sudden burning desire to run (uh, "finish") a half-marathon. I'm thinking the Disney Princess in March.
One of the things I like about this one is that they absolutely REQUIRE that you be able to pace 16 min/mile. Well, hell, I walk 15 mm, so with some training I ought to be able to keep that up over 13 miles, which means they won't come haul my (theoretically shrinking) ass off the course.
And, of course, I want some company. ;-) The kind of company who won't yawn and go, "Oh that? Easy. Sure. Whatever." (my SIL, Ms. Triathlete) but who will be happy to go for a kid-free weekend, some
massages and at least start the race, whether or not they do haul us off somewhere down the road. lol
Any chance?
LK: I'd get a bib! [Five-year-old daughter] would wet her pants if I did something related to princesses... Ok — my pride says yes.
Me: And that's why I like you, your "why not?" attitude! (Not as big a fan of "can do" type people, clearly... lol).
LK: I think it's safe to say that may be my motto — looking back, don't know that I could be accused of being terribly proactive... it's good to find people who appreciate that ;-)
Is it any wonder we’re friends? (And hopefully still will be after March.)
